This detox diet has received a resurgence of popularity since Beyonce reportedly used the Master Cleanse Diet to lose 20 pounds in 10 days to prepare for her role in Dreamgirls. We know that this diet is popular, but is it safe? And more importantly, are the pounds likely to stay off? (Even though Beyonce herself admitted in an interview that she headed straight for the nearest donut after the 10-day diet and gained all of her weight back.)
The Master Cleanse Diet consists of a daily regimen of drinking a mixture of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and grade B maply syrup. No food allowed! This diet wasn’t really a diet when it was created – rather, it is a method for cleansing the body from the inside out. However, people began to take notice of the dramatic weight loss that typically occurred while on the Lemonade Diet, and it received new life as a weight loss regimen. It is a personal choice how long you choose to remain on the detox diet. Many people have stayed on the Lemonade Diet for 3 days to up to 30 days to rid the body of harmful toxins. And then, of course, you have the people who primarily use it for weight loss purposes only.
Is the Master Cleanse Diet Safe for Weight Loss?
The Master Cleanse is indeed safe, but you have to make sure you’re using it for the right reasons and going into the process with your eyes wide open. Is your primary motivation to cleanse your body? Or is it to drop weight quickly to fit into a bikini? Are you prepared for the possibility that the weight may indeed come back as soon as you end the diet and start back eating food?
Secondly, from a psychological standpoint, the Master Cleanse can be really beneficial to many of its users. Using this diet for a short period of time may enable you to develop a sense of control over emotional eating issues. As a matter of fact, many Master Cleanse users report not feeling hungry, but instead wanting to fulfill a craving to chew. You can use the days that you are on the Master Cleanse to help distinguish between true physiological cravings for hunger and psychological cravings that cause you to eat more than you should.
Lastly, many users also report an increased amount of energy, well-being, and plain-old “I just feel good!” once completing the Master Cleanse diet. Whether this feeling is truly physical or psychological is a point of debate.
